18th ACNA Biennial Convention  |  Toronto, Ontario, Canada  |  September 2-6, 2027

Please check official sources. Entry rules change. Confirm every requirement on the Government of Canada website (canada.ca) and with your own country's border agency a few weeks before you travel.

📄 1. Documents (everyone)

Valid passport that stays valid for the whole trip. Carry it for ID in Toronto. Check your entry status on canada.ca. It depends on your citizenship. Most visa-exempt visitors flying to Canada need an eTA (about CAD $7 as of June 2026). Apply only on the official Government of Canada site. U.S. citizens do not need an eTA. U.S. green card holders: carry your green card and passport. Some nationalities (for example Philippine passport holders) can get an eTA only if they held a Canadian visa in the past 10 years or hold a valid U.S. non-immigrant visa. Otherwise a visitor visa is needed, so start early. Visa-required travellers need the visitor visa for land entry as well. Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, should travel with a Canadian passport. Invitation or support letter if you need one for a visa. Ask the registration team early. Convention registration and hotel booking confirmations (printed or saved offline). Travel insurance covering medical care and cancellations. Health care in Canada is not free for visitors. Copies of your passport and key documents, kept apart from the originals. Minors: a consent letter if travelling with a child who isn't yours.

✈️ 2. Travelling by air

Book flights early and plan to arrive September 2. Consider September 1 for a buffer. Confirm your arrival airport and the route to the hotel (taxi, ride-share, or train and subway). Ask the hotel for the best option. Check baggage rules, including golf clubs and pickleball paddles. Prepare carry-on liquids and medications for security. Connecting through the U.S.? Check U.S. transit requirements for your passport. Allow extra time for customs and immigration, and keep your hotel address handy. Save the airline and hotel phone numbers.

🚗 3. By car or bus across the border

Documents and vehicle

Passport (or other border-approved ID your own government accepts for land travel). Check before you go. Vehicle registration and proof of insurance. Ask your insurer whether your policy covers Canada and request the Canadian non-resident insurance card if needed. Rental car: confirm in writing that the rental company allows driving into Canada. Carry a letter of permission if the vehicle isn't in your name. Fill up, and check tyres, brakes, and the spare before a long drive.

At the border

Answer the officer's questions honestly: purpose (convention), length of stay, where you're staying, and what you're carrying. Declare goods, gifts, food, and cash of CAD $10,000 or more. Check the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) website for current alcohol and tobacco allowances. Do not bring firearms, pepper spray, or cannabis across the border. Check the CBSA list of prohibited and restricted items. Check restrictions on fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, and plants. Prescription medicines in original labelled containers, with a doctor's note for anything unusual. Expect waiting times, especially on Fridays and holiday weekends. Leave extra time.

By bus

Confirm the operator's border procedure. You may be asked to get off for inspection. Keep your passport, ticket, and hotel details in your hand luggage, not in the luggage hold.

Driving in Toronto

Speeds and distances are in kilometres, and fuel is sold by the litre. Ask the hotel about parking fees (downtown parking can be expensive) and whether you need a car at all. Download offline maps in case your phone has no signal.

💵 4. Money and phone

Currency is the Canadian dollar (CAD). Tell your bank you're travelling and ask about foreign transaction fees. Carry a credit card and a little cash. Tipping is customary (about 15 to 20% in restaurants). Check your phone's roaming plan or buy an eSIM or local SIM. Outlets are 120V, the same type as in the U.S. Travellers from other countries should bring an adapter.

🩺 5. Health and safety

Bring enough medications for the whole trip plus a few spare days. Note allergies and dietary needs on your registration so the food committee can plan. Save emergency contacts, your embassy or consulate contact if travelling abroad, and the hotel number. Pack a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and any mobility aids you need.

🏨 6. Hotel

Book at the Chelsea Hotel under the Alpha Phi Omega room block and quote the reservation ID shown on the convention page. Note the booking dates on the convention page: early rate for bookings by June 1, 2027, a higher rate for June 2 to August 3, 2027, and a final cut-off of August 4, 2027. Check the page again before booking in case anything has changed.

🧳 7. What to pack (late summer in Toronto)

Light layers: warm days, cooler evenings. Add a light jacket and a small umbrella or rain jacket. Registration day: comfortable shoes and your confirmation. ⛳ Golf Tournament: golf shoes, glove, cap, and sunscreen. 🏓 Pickleball Tournament: court shoes, paddle, and water bottle. 🤠 Cowboy Night: Western wear, such as a hat, boots, bandana, or jeans. ✨ Gala Night: formal or cultural attire, dress shoes, and a wrap or jacket for the venue. 🚌 Day tour (Niagara and Outlet Mall): comfortable shoes, camera, ID, and extra room in your bag for shopping. Phone charger, power bank, and a small bag to carry through the convention. Photos, chapter keepsakes, or gifts to share with fellow delegates.

🏠 8. Before you leave home

Register for the convention and confirm your event sign-ups (golf, pickleball, poker, day tour). Share your itinerary with a family member or friend. Hold your mail, arrange pet and home care, and tell your bank about your trip. Download the schedule, maps, and key contacts for offline use. Check the convention website for updates in the final two weeks.

🎉 9. On arrival and during the convention

Check in at the hotel and collect your Convention Kit and name tag. Visit the registration desk on Sept 3 and attend the Welcome Dinner. Note the times and venues for the Board of Directors meeting (Sept 4), General Assembly (Sept 5), and the Send Off Brunch (Sept 6). Take photos and share them with the convention hashtag. Keep your passport and valuables secure in the hotel safe.

🛫 10. Going home

Check return border requirements for your home country, including customs declarations and duty-free limits. Keep receipts for large purchases. Allow extra time at the airport or border on departure day, which may be a busy travel day.

Your ticks are saved on this device only. See you in Toronto! 🍁
